1. 人が東を向いたときに南にあたる側。また、動物・人形・乗り物などについて、その正面の向きや進行方向が東のときに南にあたる側。
2. 話し手や聞き手など視点となる人にとって、自分の右(語義1)にあたる側。また、その方向。語義1と紛らわしい場合に「向かって右」「誰々から見て右」と言うことがある。
3. よりすぐれたものの座する位置(座を観る側からの視点において)。
