1. 観測者を中心とした方向のひとつ。東に向かって北の方向。
2. 話し手や聞き手など視点となる人にとって、自分の左(語義1)にあたる側。また、その方向。語義1と紛らわしい場合に「向かって左」「誰々から見て左」と言うことがある。
3. 酒が好きなこと。左党。
4. 急進的な思想、立場。とくに、反動的・保守的・伝統的な思想、立場と対比するとき。左翼、左派、革新派、改革派、極左、左寄り。
