1. to consist of; to be made up of; to be composed of
この本は十の章から成り立っている。This book consists of ten chapters.
2. to be concluded (e.g. of an agreement); to hold true (e.g. of a theory); to be valid
あなたの理屈は成り立ちません。Your reasoning does not hold up.
3. to be viable (of a business, lifestyle, etc.); to carry on; to keep going
あれだけで国が成り立てば苦労はないわ。If a country could be sustained by that alone, there would be no hardship.
