① 隠語の一種。宮廷に奉仕する女官が使用した。上品さ、優美さを醸成させることを目的として使用された。時代が下るにつれて、武家の侍女や、ついには町人の女性にまで浸透していった。特徴として、接頭に「お」をつける（水→お冷）、語尾に「文字」をつける（杓子→しゃもじ）などが挙げられる。
